Designing Business Banking and POS Management Platform
Overview
Gigmonie is a fintech startup backed by IDEO's Last Mile Money programme, built to give SMBs and mobile money agents a single platform to manage finances, POS terminals, transactions, loans, and bill payments. I led end-to-end product design across the full application; from the business wallet and transaction dashboard to the complete POS ordering, activation, and management experience.

The Background
Small business owners and mobile money agents in emerging markets were running their finances blind; fragmented tools, no centralised view, and POS terminals that required a head office visit just to activate. Gigmonie was built to change that.
Backed by IDEO's Last Mile Money programme, I led end-to-end product design for a mobile-first financial platform covering business wallet, POS ordering and activation, cashpoint management, credits UX
The Problem Observed
Businesses in this space were managing finances across fragmented tools, unreliable processes, and manual workarounds. Through field research conducted with the IDEO team, visiting stores, business premises, and POS stands, seven critical pain points emerged:
Registration and onboarding was complex and time-consuming, deterring adoption
Transactions accross several cashpoints lacked transparency
They had no clear confirmation after transactions, leaving them unsure whether money had moved
Business owners wanted comprehensive wallet features including statements and summaries
POS machine requests required visiting a physical head office; no competitor offered in-app ordering or guided activation
Also ability to pay bills with earnings.

Key Decision
The problem, therefore, was not just about building functionality. It was about designing a system that users could rely on without hesitation. Gigmonie needed to reduce confusion, eliminate friction, and give business owners a strong sense of control over their finances.

What I designed for
I designed a mobile-first financial experience that brings together wallet management, transactions, POS operations, and credit into a single system.
The focus was not just on functionality, but on behaviour. Every flow was simplified, every action clearly communicated, and every interaction designed to build user confidence.

Research and Insights
As the lead product designer, I worked closely with engineers, product managers, and the IDEO team during a focused sprint.
I prioritised research early, speaking directly with agents and business owners to understand how they operate in real contexts. A key insight emerged: users didn’t want more features, they wanted clarity, speed, and reassurance.
This shaped my design direction, focusing on simplicity, strong feedback systems, and predictable flows.

Onboarding and Account Setup
The onboarding flow was simplified to feel fast and guided. Users move quickly from introduction to verification, with minimal inputs and immediate account setup, reducing early friction.

Account Setup
The account setup flow is designed to be simple and quick, requiring only essential user information. Real-time verification ensures users can get started without unnecessary delays.

Wallet & Transactions
The wallet acts as the core control center, giving users instant visibility into their balance, activity, and next actions.
Transaction flows were designed with clear summaries, transparent fees, and strong confirmations to eliminate uncertainty and build trust.

POS & Cashpoints
I designed POS management into a fully in-app experience. Users can request, track, and activate terminals without offline dependencies, while managing multiple cashpoints in one place.

Credit Experience
The credit flow allows users to verify identity, view limits, and simulate loans before committing. This ensures clarity and supports better financial decisions.

Transfers, Payments & Withdrawals
Transfers, bill payments, and withdrawals are designed as a cohesive experience within the app. Clear flows and real-time feedback help users complete transactions quickly and confidently.

Support & Feedback
More than 50% of research participants said they wanted reliable in-app support. I designed a support hub covering bug reporting, live agent chat, and a curated FAQ library. I also introduced an in-app feedback UI giving the product team a continuous signal on user satisfaction without requiring users to leave the app.

Key Takeaways
This project reinforced that in fintech, clarity and trust are as important as functionality. Designing for confidence, not just usability, was key to creating a system users can rely on daily.
Gigmonie secured LMM funding from IDEO's Last Mile Money programme. The product launched with a complete mobile banking and POS management suite. The research-led approach meant that every feature shipped addressed a specific pain point surfaced directly from the people using it — not assumptions from a meeting room.

"Working with Choice during the discovery sprint was very collaborative. While we focused on research together, she took full ownership of making sense of the insights and translating them into a clear product direction. It was impressive to see how she turned raw findings into practical, well-thought-out design solutions."

"Choice brought strong ownership to the product beyond the initial discovery phase. She was responsible for making sense of the research and driving the final design direction, ensuring that what we built was both user-focused and aligned with the business."
